Football players collect honors; major bowl trips

Speed School athletes Jeremy Timpf (above) and Jason Sweet are both standout linebackers with excellent speed and each have had strong 2014 seasons on the field. Timpf, a Sabino grad playing for the Army football team, was named national FBS Defensive Player of the Week an impressive three times this season.

Meanwhile, here in Tucson, many will remember our story of Jason Sweet, the Special Operations sergeant who returned from Afghanistan (and a career-ending baseball injury) to try out for the University of Arizona football team. Sweet made the team earlier this fall and quickly rose up the depth charts to become a two-way starter on special teams, and will represent the Wildcats when they face Boise State on New Year’s Eve in the Fiesta Bowl (see his thoughts on the 2014 season here).

Pima standouts collect post-season honors

Pima’s Devyn Hunley and Brandi Park (above), both Sabino grads and Speed School athletes, were recognized for their strong seasons playing for the Aztecs, garnering honors on the All-Conference and All-Region teams. Teaming up with several other Speed School players on the Pima roster, they helped lead the Aztecs to the ACCAC Conference championship, the Regional championship, and a trip to the national championship tournament.
