Three Speed School athletes in Top 100

An annual tradition in Southern Arizona, local sportswriter Greg Hansen has released his Top 100 Sports Figures of 2014. Heavily populated with top Olympic, professional, and collegiate athletes with Southern Arizona ties, it goes without saying that this is a very exclusive list. For that reason, we are very proud to recognize the three Speed School athletes who were named to the list.

Jeremy Timpf, a West Point linebacker and Sabino grad, was the first Speed School athlete listed at #56. Timpf not only led Army in tackles, but was named national FBS Defensive Player of the Week three times throughout the 2014 season.

Pusch Ridge alum Aaron Vaughn was named to the list on the strength of a fantastic 2014 spring season during which he became the all-time winningest pitcher for Northwest Nazarene University. Following the season, he turned pro and is currently with the Houston Astros organization.

Kirtana Bhat is the lone Speed School athlete to make the Top 100 list as a high school athlete. Her credentials on the tennis court this season were impressive: She won her third consecutive individual state championship, helped lead Catalina Foothills to the team title, and was named the Player of the Year by virtually every Arizona high school publication (Photo credit: Mike Christy, AZ Daily Star).

Congratulations Jeremy, Aaron, and Kirtana – and keep up the good work! Want to see the full list? Click here…
