Longtime Desert Speed School coach Mike Smith, now coaching football, helped lead his San Manuel Junior High team to the Central League Championship last week. Going 7-1 on the season with both a powerful offense that averaged 37 points/game and a stifling defense which posted four shutouts on the season, the Miners held off a tough Hayden team to win the title game 20-18.
