As reported by The Arizona Daily Star sportswriter Greg Hansen, this year’s Salpointe softball team is aiming for an undefeated regular season and a state championship, something no team from Southern Arizona has done before.

Salponte Catholic High School’s softball team, 20-0 after opening the Class 4A state playoffs with an 11-0 victory over Apache Junction Saturday, is in position to do something none of the 51 state softball champs from the greater Tucson area have ever done: go undefeated. The Lancers are so good they’ve won their last seven games by a combined score of 78-1.

The #1-ranked Lancers include Speed School athletes Jordy Johnson and Krista Martinez, and capped off the regular season with a convincing win over 3A #1 Sabino, a game in which Martinez hit the walk-off home run for Salpointe. Full story…
