With the softball and baseball playoffs continuing, eight Desert Speed School athletes headlined their teams’ performances. As reported by Javier Morales of AllSportsTucson, two teams won their second-round games, with Salpointe’s Paul Saffer (1-3, run), Izaiah Moraga (2-3, run), and Anthony Milo (1-3, run, RBI) helping lead their Lancers to a 9-1 win over Mesquite. Meanwhile, the youthful Tanque Verde softball program continued its win streak with Ella Haggard contributing at the plate (1-1, run) in a 7-0 win over ALA-West Foothills.
Thanks for the double-elimination format of the state playoffs, four teams lost their second-round games but stay alive in the elimination bracket. Cienega’s Sophia Butt (1-3, run), Willcox’s Madison Bennett (2-3), Mica Mountain’s Caeli Shellenbarger (2-3, stolen base), and Sabino’s Avery Nielson (16k in 6 IP) all look to help their teams rebound this week and avoid elimination.
