Desert Speed School athlete and Salpointe football/volleyball standout Dylan Dreis was named a finalist for 2022 Student-Athlete of the Year, according to Andy Morales of AllSportsTucson. The award is a continuation of the longtime Tucson Citizen tradition of recognizing local student-athletes for their success in the classroom, in competition, and their contributions to the community, and has been carried on by AllSportsTucson since 2014.
Dreis was a significant factor on the field as his Lancer team made a run to the state championship game in 2021. A converted quarterback who quickly became a downfield threat as a wide receiver, he had 94 yards and two touchdowns in a dramatic 45-42 Salpointe quarterfinal win.
As an outside hitter for the Salpointe boys’ volleyball team, Dreis was one of the state leaders in hitting percentage – leading to his recognition as a 1st-team selection and Region Offensive Player of the Year honors by AZPreps365.
