As reported by Javier Morales of AllSportsTucson, Desert Speed School athlete and standout RB/LB Gavin Gilbert (Tanque Verde) was named the NFFSAC top scholar-athlete for the 2023-24 academic year. Gilbert led the state in tackles for the Hawks and was one of the top running backs in both yardage and touchdowns en route to leading Tanque Verde to its best season in school history. As part of the recognition by the Coaches Association, he receives a $3,000 scholarship.
