Desert Speed School alum and New Mexico State infielder Nick Gonzales was awarded NCAA Player of the Year honors recently, according to the Aggies website.
The Cienega grad was coming off a 2019 campaign that saw him earn All-American status, and put up impressive numbers in the abbreviated 2020 season that was ultimately cancelled due to the global pandemic. His offensive accomplishments included an 82-game active hit streak along with leading the nation in home runs, runs, RBI, and total bases.
Gonzales is the first New Mexico State player to receive this honor, and is expected to be a top-five pick in the upcoming MLB Draft in June. Full press release…
