Desert Speed School athlete and Cienega grad Nick Gonzales was selected 7th overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates in this year’s MLB draft, one of the highest selections ever for a Tucson player. Gonzales has gone from a lightly recruited high school player to a walk-on at New Mexico State – and eventually a two-time All-American, NCAA Player of the Year, and now top draft pick.
