As reported by Kevin Murphy of AllSportsTucson, Sabino’s Riley Nielson struck out 26 Empire batters en route to an epic 15-inning semifinal win to put the Sabercats in the state championship game. The game was scoreless through 15 until Nielson’s game-winning RBI gave Sabino the 1-0 win.
“Riley’s everything; there’s a reason she’s one of the best in the state,” said Sabino head coach Kyle Howell. “There’s a reason she’ll be a Division 1 athlete. That’s the best individual performance I’ve ever seen.”
Sabino also includes fellow Speed School athletes Ashley Stewart, Desirre Miranda, and Aubree Totten. The Sabercats play #3 Payson for the state championship on Monday at Hillenbrand Stadium.
