Powered by ace pitcher Brittany Woolridge on the mound along with a key late-inning, game-tying hit by Noelle Kerr, the #6-seed Empire Ravens upset #1 Payson in the state championship softball game, giving their school its first-ever state championship for a team sport.

Coach Shannon Woolridge – who also wears multiple hats in this role (he is also Brittany’s father and Empire High School’s AD) – said after the game that it was “over 100 intensity” on a scale of 1 to 10.
