In what was a matchup between two local teams and six Desert Speed School athletes, the Salpointe and Mica Mountain boys’ soccer teams met last week for an all-Tucson 4A state championship soccer game. While Salpointe – with Speed School athletes Jamie Myer, Nico Soto, and Adrian Franks as part of the team – was aiming for their 11th title in program history, Mica’s program (Evan Mayfield, Colin Douglas, Landon McKendrick) is one of the newest in the state, in only their third year in existence.
While Salpointe came in as the lower-ranked 4th-seed, the Lancers came away with a 3-1 win for the state championship. Desert Speed School athlete Jamie Myer assisted on the second goal of the day for Salpointe (50′). Full story…
