Cross-country runners from around the state will descend on the Cave Creek Golf Course this weekend, with state championship aspirations on the line. Among those will be two of the top boys’ runners in the state, Desert Speed School athletes Andrew Smith (Tanque Verde) and Aric Accetta (Salpointe). Smith and Accetta finished 1-2 at the Rio Rico Sectional qualifier to punch their tickets to the state meet along with their respective teams.
On the girls’ side, Sahuaro’s Marley Gandee – fresh off leading her Sahuaro team to the TUSD Championship – qualified as an individual and will look to represent her Cougars at the meet.
