Six Desert Speed School athletes are playing tonight and tomorrow for state championships in softball and baseball. The first matchup pits local teams and Speed School athletes against one another, with #3 Sahuarita (Omar Felix) facing off against #6 Sabino (Preston Clifford, Mike Snyder) in the 3A championship – a rematch of last year’s title game. Later today, Ricky Santiago (above) and his Salpointe teammates will take on #1 Mesquite in the 4A title game.
On the girls’ side, freshman Jordy Johnson gets her first shot at a high school title when Salpointe takes on Cactus in the 4A Softball championship tomorrow. Meanwhile, #3 Ironwood Ridge (Keira Painter) will take on #2 Centennial in the 5A title matchup.
