Six Softball, Three Baseball Teams Advance

With the high school playoffs in full swing for baseball and softball, a number of Speed School-led teams faced win-or-go-home first-round matchups on Saturday – with six softball teams advancing along with two baseball programs. The list of top performances was highlighted by Cienega’s Sophia Butt, who went 2-4 at the plate with a critical RBI and a run on a stolen base in a back-and-forth 5-4 win over Mountain View.

Nate Shoemaker, Catalina Foothills (14-4 over Lake Havasu) – 2-3, 3 runs, RBI

Paul Shaffer, Salpointe (8-7 over St. Mary’s) – 2-3, run

Anthony Milo, Salpointe – 2-4, run, 3 RBI

Brooke Wild, Salpointe softball (4-0 win over Douglas) – 2-3

Caeli Shallenberger, Mica Mountain (9-5 over Crimson) – 1-4, run, 3 RBI, double

Ella Haggard, Tanque Verde (8-3 over River Valley) – 1-2, run, double

Avery Nielson, Sabino (9-7 over NW Christian) – 4 walks, 2 runs, 7 innings pitched, 15 strikeouts

Madison Bennett, Willcox (5-4 over Camp Verde) – 1-3, run, 2 RBI
