Speed School athletes factor big in the first week of high school football

A number of Speed School athletes factored heavily in the action in the first week of high school action on the gridiron. Eastside rivals Sabino and Sahuaro kicked off the games with a traditional Thursday game for Week 1, with Sabino eventually prevailing 41-35 in a back-and-forth game. Speed School athlete Matt Paquette was a workhorse for Sahuaro, using his speed to pick up 156 yards on the ground, including an 80-yard touchdown. Sabino’s go-ahead score came at the end of the game when James Offerman returned a fumble for what would eventually prove to be the game-winning touchdown. Full game recap…

The next night, Salpointe traveled up to Phoenix to take on St. Mary’s, eventually coming away with a 20-12 win. Speed School athletes Caleb Eubanks and Cameron Tober anchored the defense for the Lancers, and speedster Mario Padilla added 124 yards rushing along with a touchdown to secure the win for #5-ranked Salpointe. Full game recap…
