A number of Speed School athletes factored heavily in the action in the first week of high school action on the gridiron. Eastside rivals Sabino and Sahuaro kicked off the games with a traditional Thursday game for Week 1, with Sabino eventually prevailing 41-35 in a back-and-forth game. Speed School athlete Matt Paquette was a workhorse for Sahuaro, using his speed to pick up 156 yards on the ground, including an 80-yard touchdown. The next night, Salpointe traveled up to Phoenix to take on St. Mary’s, eventually coming away with a 20-12 win. Speed School athletes Caleb Eubanks and Cameron Tober anchored the defense for the Lancers, and speedster Mario Padilla added 124 yards rushing along with a touchdown to secure the win for #5-ranked Salpointe.
