Speed School athletes off to strong starts in winter sports

With the soccer and basketball seasons having kicked off, Speed School athletes are already making headlines. Desert Christian’s Addi Vavala, a Fall All-Star in volleyball, was named to AllSportsTucson’s watch list as one of the top returning players at the D-IV level.

Meanwhile, Sabino’s Brianna Pitre (above) was named by the Arizona Daily Star as one of the city’s top players at any level. She did not disappoint, breaking the Sabercats’ school record for single-game scoring with 33 points in a tournament win. A recent injury has sidelined the heavily-recruited Pitre, who nonetheless expects to return to the floor for Sabino by the end of the season.

On the field, Alex Skidmore and her Foothills’ teammates fought to a 2nd-place finish in the always competitive Brandon Bean Thanksgiving Tournament; Taylor Anderson (above) provided eight saves for his Salpointe team in a semifinal win as his Lancers also took 2nd on the boys’ side of the bracket.
