As reported by Javier Morales of AllSportsTucson, Desert Speed School athlete and Salpointe senior Emma Veliz scored the lone goal (71′) in the 4A State Championship game to bring home yet another girls soccer state championship to Tucson. Salpointe and top-seeded Prescott had been locked in a scoreless battle before Veliz’s shot from the center found the back of the net to make it 1-0.
The win marks the 3rd state title for this year’s Salpointe graduating class. The Lancers relied heavily on scoring from Speed School athletes throughout the playoffs, with EC Cazares providing the scoring on both goals in a 2-0 semifinal win over Walden Grove.
