The high school and middle school seasons have largely wrapped up following the AIA and AZMS state championship races, and Speed School athletes at all levels found themselves with strong finishes in their respective meets.
At the high school level, Salpointe’s Aric Accetta was the strongest finisher, with a 9th-place individual finish that helped his Lancer team to a 3rd-place overall team result. Meanwhile, Tanque Verde’s Andrew Smith was the top finisher for his Hawks team, finishing 25th overall; Caleb Hymson (Sabino) also finished 38th for the Sabercats. On the girls’ side, Sahuaro’s Marley Gandee had a season-best time as she finished 46th for the Cougars.
At the middle school level, Speed School athletes Finley Johnson and Isa Portillo both found themselves on the podium with respective 2nd and 4th-place finishes in their race. Emily Gray’s Makoto Lara and Claire Maberry each hit PRs with their 40th and 58th-place finishes in the highly competitive 7th-8th grade race.
Congrats to all runners on a fantastic season – and best of luck to all those runners continuing on to compete at NXR!
