As high school soccer winds down its regular season and begins to ramp up towards the postseason, several local teams are looking to make bids for the inaugural Open Division, which will crown one overall state champion between the larger 4A, 5A, and 6A schools. Cienega (#21 overall) and Catalina Foothills (#30 overall) both would make the cut as of this article, according to Javier and Andy Morales of AllSportsTucson and AZPreps365.
Desert Speed School athlete and Cienega junior Ava Rayman is part of a Bobcats team that is currently ranked #2 in the 5A Southern Region and has benefited from playing a heavy schedule throughout the year, as Morales reports. Meanwhile, Catalina Foothills recently won a highly-anticipated matchup against CDO for the 5A Sonoran title to boost their chances of qualifying for the Open. The Falcons include Speed School athletes Kailyn O’Connell, Gracie Oxnam, Grace Hughes, Adrian Moncrief, Hailey Kohler, and Parker Goodell. Full story…
