In a battle of Speed School athletes on opposing sides of the court, the Salpointe girls volleyball team won the Lancer Classic over the weekend, going 6-0 over two days to take the tournament win.
The championship match featured Speed School athletes from both Salpointe (Iris Wheeler, Megan Muehlebach, Chloe Zhang, Leila Lowther) and their opponent Catalina Foothills (Molly Brunell, Fiona Rucker, Tori Staples). As reported by Andy Morales of AZPreps365, strong play at the net by Staples and Brunell took it to a 3rd set for the Falcons, which was ultimately won by the Lancers 15-10.
In other tournament action from the Classic, 4A Mica Mountain (Addy Andrews, Sofia Bishop), currently ranked #4 in state, took the 3rd-place match in straight sets over Cienega, and Speed School athlete Hannah Haggard (Tanque Verde) was named to the All-Tournament team.
