Salpointe girls soccer won their 3rd consecutive state championship Wednesday night, defeating a strong Catalina Foothills team in a tough-fought 2-1 overtime win. Five Desert Speed School athletes are among the champion Lancer team: Kate Connelly, Sydney Lenhart, Grace Kaufman-Fuller, Catalina Alvarado, and Valentina Campos. The two squads faced each other after knocking off the #1 and #2 seeds in the semifinal round, and played to a scoreless 0-0 through regulation before notching goals in overtime. The runner-up Foothills team also included another five Speed School athletes themselves: Hannah Draper, Becca Burrows, Sophie Fell, Emma Nance, and Dania Shabat. Full story…
